The Savoy celebrates its reopening
It is one of the most famous hotels in the world and is sometimes described as London’s "landmark of luxury": The Savoy, one of London’s most prestigious hotels, reopened last Sunday after three years of renovations.
Opened in 1889, The Savoy in London, with its breathtaking views of the River Thames, has hosted world-famous actors, musicians, politicians and artists such as Claude Monet, Vivien Leigh, Charlie Chaplin, Laurence Olivier and Marlene Dietrich. Momentous decisions were made by politicians and business leaders in its luxurious rooms and suites. At long last, the venerable Savoy has reopened its doors.

It was the "New York Times" that gave The Savoy the name "landmark of luxury." The Canadian company „Fairmont“ invested around 251 million euros in the hotel’s renovation, according to company statements. British media reports say that more than twice as much time and money were spent as Fairmont had originally planned. However, the extensive renovations of the venerable London hotel were unavoidable: in recent years, guests had complained about the unacceptable value for money in the hotel’s old premises. Investment was therefore necessary to restore the hotel’s reputation and make it shine once again.
More than 60 percent of the 278 suites and rooms offer breathtaking views of the River Thames. Thanks to the modernization and renovations, The Savoy in London now once again lives up to its legendary reputation as one of the world’s most famous hotels, inside as well as out.
