Hungarian museums exhibit in London
London is currently offering an added highlight for art and culture lovers: More than 200 exhibits from the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest and the Hungarian National Gallery are on display at the Royal Academy of Arts in London from today until 12 December 2010. The exhibition is titled “Treasures from Hungary: European Masterpieces from Leonardo to Schiele.”
Among the most interesting exhibits for art lovers from around the world at the Hungarian exhibition are masterpieces by Schiele, Goya, Monet and Rubens. The paintings, drawings and sculptures presented at the Royal Academy of Arts span a period from the early Renaissance to contemporary art of the 20th century. The exhibition is arranged chronologically according to when the works were created. Artists from the same period are also grouped thematically. One of the highlights of the exhibition in London from Hungary is Raphael’s painting from 1508, acquired in 1871 along with a larger collection from the Esterházy family. Alongside international artists, the exhibition focuses on works by Hungarian masters such as Munkácsy, Csontváry and Rippl-Rónai.

The Hungarian exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts in London was opened by Hungarian Justice Minister Tibor Navracsics at a ceremonial event. Hungary hopes that the exhibition in London will enable EU citizens to learn more about the country’s rich cultural history. Particularly with Hungary set to take over the EU Council presidency for six months next year, the exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts provides a good opportunity for Hungary to “introduce” itself more closely to Europe and present itself to the public in London .
