Red Bull X-Fighters come to London

Red Bull is currently setting the standard not only in Formula 1, but is also involved in so-called niche areas of international motorsport. These include the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour, sponsored by the Austrian energy drink company of the same name and staged only in some of the world’s most exciting cities. Naturally, London also features as a venue on the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour, where the world’s best freestyle riders compete. While motorsport is usually all about pure speed, this motocross event is primarily about spectacular, high and long jumps on two wheels, ideally with a high degree of difficulty. London is the fifth of six stops on the 2010 Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour, so the event at the legendary Battersea Power Station on the south bank of the River Thames on August 14 could prove decisive in the battle for the overall title.

Battersea Power Station is one of Europe’s oldest brick buildings and has served as a backdrop for such well-known films as Alfred Hitchcock’s “Sabotage” and Monty Python’s “The Meaning of Life.” In addition, Battersea Power Station, one of London’s most famous landmarks, also appears on the cover of Pink Floyd’s “Animals” album. Now the Red Bull X-Fighters are set to bring new life to the venerable former coal-fired power station on the Thames as they compete for vital points in the 2010 World Tour on August 14. Previous stops on the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour were Mexico City, Cairo (Egypt), Moscow (Russia) and Madrid (Spain). The final takes place on the first weekend in October in the Italian capital, Rome.

Although motocross riders from Great Britain, like those from Germany, will not be competing at the London event, the Battersea Power Station on the Thames will play host to the world’s best riders as they showcase their skills. All things considered, it seems that only Andre Villa (Norway) and Robbie Maddison (Australia) remain in contention for the overall title in the 2010 Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour. A duel between Nate Adams (USA) and Levi Sherwood (New Zealand) is shaping up for the last remaining place on the podium. Other riders expected at the Red Bull X-Fighters in London include Adam Jones (USA), Dany Torres (Spain), Eigo Sato (Japan) and Mat Rebeaud, who represents the German-speaking world as a Swiss rider.
