2010 FA Cup Final at Wembley
Wembley is the venue for the FA Cup, which was first held in the 1871/72 season. This makes the “Football Association Challenge Cup”, the FA Cup’s full name, the oldest football competition in the world. Every true football fan should experience the special atmosphere of an FA Cup final at Wembley at least once. This year, you’ll have another chance on 15 May 2010.
The mother of all cup finals: the FA Cup final at Wembley
The 2010 FA Cup final will take place at Wembley Stadium in London on 15 May. The final of the FA Cup, England’s biggest knockout cup competition, is organised by the Premier League and the Football Association, after which it is also named. Because teams from all English leagues take part in the FA Cup, the special appeal of these competitions—the so-called “magic of the cup”—is clearly evident: In every round of the FA Cup, teams from lower leagues can spring an upset and knock top-flight sides out of the competition.
2010 FA Cup: Three semi-finalists already confirmed
Three semi-finalists have already been confirmed in the 2010 FA Cup. Portsmouth FC beat Birmingham City 2–0 in the FA Cup quarter-finals, Aston Villa won 4–2 at Reading, and Chelsea with Michael Ballack beat Stoke City, featuring Robert Huth, 2–0 at home. Fulham and Tottenham will have to “do it all again”, as their quarter-final ended goalless. The two teams will meet again on 24 March to decide Portsmouth’s semi-final opponent. Chelsea and Aston Villa will contest the other semi-final.
These four teams will then battle it out for a place in the final on 15 May 2010, when the FA Cup final kicks off at Wembley in London. Tickets for the match sell out quickly, but if you’re lucky enough to get your hands on a ticket to the FA Cup final, you should look for a holiday apartment in London or a hotel in England’s capital .
