Notting Hill Carnival 2010
Notting Hill Carnival: the Caribbean in the heart of London – that’s a brief but apt description of the festival, which will be celebrated in the western part of London on 29 and 30 August 2010. London’s Caribbean community began the Notting Hill Carnival tradition in 1965 to express its culture and traditions. Another motivation was to call for greater tolerance and stand against racism.

Notting Hill Carnival – Europe’s largest street carnival
The festival in London has grown to enormous proportions. A huge carnival procession, colourful costumes, countless stalls lining the route offering Caribbean specialities – and, of course, lively Caribbean music are all hallmarks of the Notting Hill Carnival. If you want to immerse yourself in the Caribbean atmosphere, infectious music, delicious food and colourful costumes, the Notting Hill Carnival in London is the perfect place to do so. It is now Europe’s largest street festival and, after the carnival in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, the birthplace of carnival, the second-largest carnival in the world.
Exotic dancers, spectacularly decorated floats and Caribbean music have found a home on the banks of the Thames thanks to the Notting Hill Carnival. The event now attracts visitors from all over the world, who are increasingly likely to turn up in costume. Londoners and visitors alike celebrate the Caribbean festival with abandon, swept along by the sound of Caribbean music. So you don’t have to travel halfway around the world to get to know the Caribbean – a visit to London for the Notting Hill Carnival 2010 on 29 and 30 August will give you a taste of the Caribbean way of life.
