The Spice Girls—band members Melanie Chisholm (Sporty Spice), Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), Melanie Brown (Scary Spice), Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice), and, of course, Victoria Adams (Posh Spice), now known by her married name, Beckham—rose to worldwide megastardom in the 1990s. Thanks to their many hit songs, beginning with their debut single “Wannabe,” an astonishing 55 million CDs were sold. After the band broke up toward the end of the 1990s, the Spice Girls went on tour once more in 2007.
A musical about the Spice Girls is coming to London in a few years
The Spice Girls’ story will now be told in a musical in London. The producer of the ABBA musical “Mamma Mia!” will develop and produce the show in London in collaboration with Simon Fuller, the Spice Girls’ former manager. The musical’s final title has not yet been decided. For now, it will go by the working title “Viva Forever,” after one of the Spice Girls’ hit singles. The producers also announced that the musical is expected to premiere in London in around two to three years. In addition to the two producers, the former Spice Girls and music company Universal will also be involved in creating the musical.
Not only Spice Girls fans but musical fans in general will be eagerly awaiting the London premiere of the Spice Girls musical. The stellar team involved in creating the show promises another highlight in London’s musical scene, in the “musical capital of Europe.”
