London Underground

Getting around London by Tube

The London Underground, usually called the Tube, is an important part of the public transport network. Its lines connect the city centre with many neighbourhoods. For some destinations, buses, the DLR, the Elizabeth line or local trains can supplement your journey.

Planning journeys and tickets

Fares depend, among other things, on the route and time of travel. Contactless payment and Oyster are accepted on many services; fares and payment options depend on the specific route. Line status, timetables and step-free access information are published for each journey. On escalators, the general rule is: stand on the right, walk on the left. For more information about getting around, see the London travel overview.
